Transportation is one of the top contributors to greenhouse emissions and other factors which aggravate climate change. In such a scenario, the Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP), a global non-profit organisation, engages with cities worldwide providing technical expertise on sustainable transport projects, policy solutions, research publications, and capacity development efforts.
In India, the Urban Works Institute—a public charitable trust registered in the country—is ITDP’s network partner that manages the ITDP India Programme.
The India Programme strives to reduce carbon emissions and improve the quality of life, so future generations inherit Indian cities which are liveable, equitable, and sustainable. It works with cities across India to design and implement sustainable mobility interventions—such as high-quality rapid transit, walking, and cycling.
In the past 20 years, our work has impacted the lives of over 150 million citizens.
